Weekly Meditation
The last two weekends were spent traveling to the Mountains. First to the Ozarks, to consult and be inspired by the 8 year old philosopher, Jake. Then we journeyed to the foot of the Smokies for inspiration and to consult with the ghost of Thomas Wolfe.
To have his path made clear for him is the aspiration of every human being in our beclouded and tempestuous existence — Joseph Conrad
We all seek inspiration at times. We all want a road map to our life’s purpose. So we seek enlightenment and God through others deemed more spiritual or wise than ourselves, or we go to far away locations seeking something we think we are missing at home. Yet true inspiration is right here and now. As H. L. Menken said, “ Further than that, all knowledge is moonshine.” It is found bouncing a child or in my case a grandchild on my knee; an enchanting woman, like Suzy; or merely a morning walk. These are our honeysuckle moments.
If you don’t find God in the next person you meet, it is a waste of time looking for him further.
P.S. In case we are getting a little too serious remember: Sit at the feet of the master long enough, and they’ll start to smell. -- John Sauget
